Books & Resources for Teaching Kids About Money

There seems to be a growing realization that, as much as our schools focus on preparing our children for their future careers, they generally do little or nothing to prepare them for a life in the world of money. As a result, clients occasionally ask us for resources that they can use to help teach their children about money and how it fits into the world we live in. So we recently decided to ask some fellow advisors to see what they recommend in addition to what we usually suggest. We received a number of
helpful recommendations, which we would like to share with you below.

  • Raising Financially Fit Kids, by Joline Godfrey (take away ideas)
  • Silver Spoon Kids: How Successful Parents Raise Responsible Children, by Eileen Gallo (theory and profiling)
  • Children of Paradise: Successful Parenting for Prosperous Families, by Lee Hausner
  • Kids, Money and Values, by Patricia Schiff Estess (take away activities)
  • What Kids Really Want That Money Can’t Buy: Tips for Parenting in a Commercial World, by Betsy Taylor
