About Griffin Black
Griffin Black is an independent, fee-only Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) firm that has served high-achieving professionals since 2005. We design bespoke, data-driven financial strategies built around the whole pattern of our clients’ lives, not just their portfolios.
About this role
We serve clients in two- and three-person service teams. The Associate Wealth Advisor is the relationship-forward member of the team—someone who carries real responsibility for client communication and trust, while also performing and leading component financial analyses that feed into client recommendations.
Each service team is led by an Engagement Manager, and the Associate Wealth Advisor is their closest partner and the client’s most consistent point of contact. This is a role for someone on a clear path toward Wealth Advisor and beyond; the expectation is growth, not just support.
What you’ll be doing
- Maintaining ongoing, direct, honest, supportive communication with clients.
- Staying readily available to clients to field and understand requests for information, questions, and problem-solving.
- Applying expert financial analysis to client issues and deriving recommended actions explained in terms that clients can understand.
- Accurately and consistently documenting client interactions (with software-automated assistance).
- Using client information to prepare annual review meeting presentations and working with the Engagement Manager deliver them.
- Coaching clients regarding follow-through on their agreed upon actions, and providing hands-on assistance when external services are hard to use or otherwise problematic.
- Taking primary advisory responsibility for a set of smaller client relationships, with the support of the broader service team.
What we’re looking for
Must-haves
- A genuine instinct for human connection: you’re the kind of person clients want to call.
- The ability to translate financial complexity into clear, confident guidance.
- Excellent oral and written language skills (without AI assist).
- The drive to take on client responsibility and grow along a career track toward Lead Wealth Advisor.
- A bachelor’s degree.
- Series 65 and Certified Financial Planner (CFP®) designations.
- Two or more years client-facing advisory experience in financial services.
- Experience with custodial platforms (Altruist, Pershing, etc.) as well as with key types of financial advisory technology (e.g., financial planning software, cash flow analysis software, tax analysis software, etc.).
- Facility with other foundational advisory technologies, e.g., CRM systems, reporting systems, etc.
